He served in the War of the Revolution evolution from 1777 to 1780. (This is affirmed by his grand daughter, Rhoda M. Lamberton of Cornish, N. H. I find no evidence of it in the Mass. Archives. But some Pay Rolls are undoubtedly lost.) Settled in Cornish, N. H., Feb., 1787. Was a blacksmith by occupation also a prosperous farmer ; a man of note in the town and in the region a Major in the militia; and for the term of seven years a Deputy Sheriff. He had a large property, and was a member of the Order of Free Masons. He was a man of uncommon bulk and portliness weighing about 350 pounds, according to some accounts ; though one very intelligent and trustworthy man, who knew him well, gave his actual weight at 456 pounds which I am inclined to credit. Men from that region spoke of his extraordinary corpulence in my hearing nearly forty years ago. He d. in Cornish, March 19, 1838.

He had his residence in Dudley till 1816; at which date on the incorporation of Southbridge, he, without removing, became a resident in the latter town. He was not wealthy; had a small farm in Southbridge. He d. Aug., 1841, a. 68. Lois, his wife, d. -----, a. 82.

1034. JOSHUA VINTON, eldest son of Calvin and Sarah Vinton of Dudley b.June 1, 1810; m. RUTH E. GOODELL of Charlton, April 25, 1813. They reside in Dudley, three miles from the village. He is "a highly respectable farmer." To Mr. and Mrs. Vinton the readers of this volume are largely indebted for information respecting the Vintons of Dudley and their connections. They have no children.
