Ezra Bowman and family were "warned out" of Charlton in September, 1784, according to E. P. Rice in "Worcester County, Massachusetts Warnings." Are the original records extant? If so, where might they be located? How could one find out if there are other references to Ezra Bowman and family at Charlton? Many thanks!

I have recently discovered that Brigadier General Salem Towne was an ancestor
of mine on my father's mother's side, my grandmother. Her name was Mary
Lousia Towne. She was born in Mass. (not sure what town) 8 Dec, 1867 . I
am anxious to get some information on General Towne. I know he had a mansion
built in Charlton that I believe still stands, although I'm not sure of
that. It was built in 1796. I understand that it had, at one time been restored
to it's original condition. I am interested in finding out names of his
family, he had 3 wives but I am not sure if he had children by all of them
or not. I do know that he decended from the family that originally settled
Topsfield, then Oxford and finally Charlton. General Towne was the grandson
of the Oxford minister and son of a young townsman who died serving in Canada
during the Seven Years' War. I hope that someone has heard of him and can
shed a little light on the original family name and some decendents names
or give me some information as to where I might find some of this info.
I am hoping that this personis historical enough that there would be information
on him and his family. I would be very appreciative of anything that would
help me. Thank you very much.

AKERS/TAYLOR

I'm looking for ancestral information on Ed Akers who lived in Charlton,
MA. He is my gggrandfather, and here's what I know about him: b. 9-16-1829
m. Melina Parsons 1-1-1852 in Palmer, MA d. 8-5-1908 Charlton, MA. He owned
the Akers & Taylor mill in the 1800s and lived with his wife in a large
home on Stafford St. in Charlton, at the corner of what used to be the main
highway into Worcester in those days. The house still stands today, but
is in ill repair, having descended to one of his gggrand children, Richard
Taylor, who is my 1st cousin.. Ed had two daughters: Grace, who married
Harry Grimwade, and Edith who married Frederick Taylor. Harry and Grace
lived in Charlton and were very prominent and well-to-do, as were the Taylors.
In 1903, Grace died suddenly and unexpectedly from heart failure at the
age of 33. I have her Charlton obituary. She left two small children: Roger
(4) and Muriel (10 months). .Ed and his son-in-law partner Frederick Taylor
died within two months of each other in 1908, after which the mills went
to Ed's surviving son-in-law, Harry Grimwade. Ed's wife Melina continued
to live in the Stafford St. house until her death in 1917, at which time
Fred Taylor's son, Ralph (my grandfather), took up residence there. Ultimately
Ralph became the owner after Edith Akers died in 1942. The house later passed
to Ralph's son Richard when Edith Collins Taylor died as a widow in 1973.
Richard lived in the house until his death in 1986, at which time the house
went to his four children, Richard "Dickie", Marsha, Holly and
Jenny. To my knowledge, they still own the house. Ed Aker's father was Henry
Akers (b 12-1793 m 6-1821 d 3-1872), married to Achsah Hunt, whose father
was Henry Hunt. Ed's grandfather was Peter Akers, married to Lydia. That's
all I know and can find on Ed's ancestors. My father Robert, one of Ralph's
children, tells me that Ed Akers was a very brilliant man, but he had a
brother who was "crazy" and "weird". Do you have any
information on these families, especially the Akers' ancestry? I'm also
looking for the Taylor ancestry from the early 1700s back. Briefly, I have
the following Taylor ancestry:
Carol Ann Taylor McKay (myself)
Robert Wilbur Taylor (my father)
Ralph Edward Taylor b 1884 m Edith A. Collins d 1963
Frederick Stockholm Taylor b 1856 in Canada m Edith A. Akers d 1908 in Worcester,
MA
Noble Archelaus Taylor b 1833 m Phoebe Jane Stockholm d 1910
Archelaus Taylor b 1786 m Betsey Nichols d 1874
Stephen Taylor Jr m Beulah Jackson
Stephen Taylor m ?
I apologize for being so long winded, but I love my Charlton heritage, and I can talk anyone's ears off on the topic, as can my father, from whom I've learned most of the stories. Thanks so much for any and all information/help you can provide
