The 1956 Devin/Porsche

A project: My best friend Gene has come into the possession of a 1956 Devin Porsche #56542- he is in the process of restoring it to fifties spec. with the intention of vintage racing it - he would like to trace its history and be able to prove when the chassis and body were mated.

This Devin is unusual in that it is a front engine body adapted to a rear engine chassis. As the Devin D [rear engine] version came out in 1958 - we believe the conversion pre-dates this event. There are some unusual features such as the front mounted gas tank with Monza Cap and the way the rear scoop was formed out of the trunk. The Devin came upon hard times, was adapted to big wheels & tires, had a rollbar made of plumbing pipe and spent 20 years in a lockup in Holyoke MA. The tail was removed & the engine lost - we have the spares to fix it up but would love to find it's early history & possibly photographs that would help in its restoration. Please e-mail if you can help fill in the blanks - edwardh@ct1.nai.net.
